Toilet and Water-free Urinal Rebate Program
In 1994, the Marina Coast Water District initiated a rebate program to encourage replacing older toilets with more efficient models. The toilet rebate program has been a major success in conserving water. Over 3,000 toilets have been replaced through this program, saving each year 13.5 million gallons of water.
The Marina Coast Water District provides a rebate amount equal to the purchase price of the toilet, up to $125 for retrofitting from 1.6-gallon or more per flush toilets to high-efficiency toilets (single and dual-flush) having a flush capacity of 1.3 gallons or less. The 1.6-gallon per flush toilets do not qualify for a rebate. Also available is a rebate for converting from conventional urinals to water-free urinals. The District will provide you a rebate equal to the purchase price, up to $125.
Any home or commercial property sold must be retrofitted to 1.6-gallon per flush or less. The rebate program is intended to encourage the retrofitting of the high-efficiency toilets (1.3 gallon per flush). The response to the rebate program has been great and we continue to encourage the retrofitting of new high-efficiency toilets (1.3 gallon per flush or less) to save water and reduce your water bill.
The increasing number of high-efficiency toilet models available provides you choices. Current independent test data is now available for the consumer via the web. We recommend you review the ratings before you buy any toilet. The California Urban Water Conservation Council’s (CUWCC) web site has information on toilets and the current test results from the Uniform North American Requirements UNAR), Maximum Performance Testing (MaP). Please visit the CUWCC site at cuwcc.org. Click on "Product News," then select "Toilet Fixtures" for complete information on toilets, testing procedures and current testing data. Spending more money doesn’t mean you are getting a better toilet. The ability to remove waste from the bowel is not correlated to price. Don’t pay more for a toilet that uses more water and doesn’t empty the bowl. Current test data allows the smart consumer to avoid the poor performers and pick the model in their price range.
To receive a high-efficiency toilet rebate, save your original purchase receipt. Then pick up a rebate from our offices or download the form from our website. Fill out the form, attach the original receipt, and mail or bring the form and the original receipt to our main office, 11 Reservation Road. Visit the Contact Us page for driving directions.
The District will only accept receipts less than one year old. The rebate program is only for our customers.
